Jerry Delivered!

This has been one exciting week. So exciting, that I did not have much time to write. There wasn't as many blog posts as last month, but I want each post to be good and full of interesting content, you see.
This story begins the day before yesterday. I was in my bedroom in the middle of the afternoon. My sister Zaira comes up and hands me a manila envelope. I look down,  I only see my address. It is my handwriting in green marker. Slightly confused and almost disheartened, I think that it is the letter I sent out to Jerry Lewis, coming back to me, unopened. Return to sender.
But realization kicks in. I remember, I decorated the letters envelope in multicolored marker stars! The envelope I was holding was the return envelope that I had enclosed with the letter, that is what you do if you want to get anything. The post Mark is Las Vegas.
I jet downstairs in a flurry of excitement, getting my Mother. I tear open the back of the envelope-"Be Careful!" My mother tells me, I am so bad at opening envelopes. I see a flash of thin card board and glossy paper. I carefully pull out a photo, a signed photo from Jerry Lewis!!!
The inscription was: "To Raven, My best wishes, Jerry Lewis. 15." It made me so happy, I had written so many others, who never wrote back. I sent my letter out, not expecting anything to happen, but still nursing the flames of hope and counting the days. Of course, earlier this month, I did stop counting the days, but I never lost hope or let myself get disappointed.
And finally, it all paid off. I am so happy about this. I knew he wouldn't let me down, Jerry is from the old school of Hollywood, he knows the importance of letters and such. What a fantastic fella he is. I was crying and laughing at the same time, it was very unexpected.
This week has been one for the books.

My Jerry Letter.

This morning I wrote in my diary: "Day 22 JLL", JLL stands for "Jerry Lewis Letter." 22 days ago I sent Mr. Lewis a letter. I have written many famous people (most times I did it wrong by sending it in a regular envelope. You are supposed to send it in a manila envelope with another envelope inside it with your address on it and some stamps for the trip back to you) but success never came to me.
So I vowed never to write another Hollywood letter as long as I live.......until Jerry Lewis came along.
My Dad introduced me to his movies back in December with "The Disorderly Orderly" and I knew I had to see more of this funny guy!! So I saw "Cinderfella", "The Stooge" and "The Nutty Proffessor". Will I ever see Eddie Murphey's version of "Nutty"? Nope! Why beat perfection?
I also found the "Jerry Lewis Sings" record at the record store, so I was happy about that! Anytime I put on one of his movies, I always feel extremely happy looking into his crazy world!!
So I made up my mind, must write a letter to Jerry Lewis!!! So I did! I drew stars all over the envelope (a regular run of the mill envelope won't get anyone's attention.) And sent it to Las Vegas. I began to count the days and I still am!
But get this, for the first time, I don't mind. Usually, I might get pretty angry after months of waiting, but if months happen to pass, I won't be upset!! No matter if he writes me or not, I will still be happy because I know that watching a Jerry Lewis movie is right up there on the happy scale with your mother's cooking, sunshine, babies, and the beach. It is just something that makes you happy and at home!
I hear he is going to be in some movie with Nicholas Cage. Probably some movie where Nick yells at a lot of people, threatens some criminals and tries to save somebody's life and take back what is his. I'm gonna have to check it out!!
Now, it's time to bring in a little happiness. Here is the Legendary Jerry doing "North Dakota, South Dakota", a really cute little song about a guy talking to the moon. "BUT I'M FROM JERSEY!!" So am I, Jerry! Enjoy.
