Frilly Socks and Fella Scarves.
Brand new fun stuff to show you today! It's been extra hot, it's a wonder how I can keep making stuff in this heat. Especially blankets, but I have one on my I hook as we speak!
First project are frilly sock tops! I found the video on YouTube after secretly desiring to have the pretty sock tops that they put on socks for kids. Like bows, some things I just never grow out of. So I decided to try my hand at these last night.
They were kind of a pain in the neck to do, you have to stick your hook through the sock, so it requires an unnecessary amount of painful wrist twisting to get that initial round done. The rest is smooth sailing. Was pleasantly surprised that the yarn I chose matched my shoes! So if you too would like frilly sock tops just for the heck of it, here is the video. Feel free to see the other videos on the Hectanooga1 YouTube channel, this lady has great stuff.
Second, I wanted to make my Uncle Scott a scarf, a nice manly scarf. This was cool because I rarely make stuff for fellas, mostly ladies and kids. Found this via Ravelry at this link: https://capedcrocheter.wordpress.com/2012/08/01/granite-stitch-mens-scarf/ it gave me a chance to practice a stitch I don't usually work, the extended single crochet. A variation of this and you get the Granite Stitch Scarf. This took me half a week, which was astonishing, it takes me forever to knit scarves, might as well keep the crochet route! ;)

These look great, Raven! The frilly sock tops are adorable :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteRaven, I love your frilly socks. I like the stitch pattern on the man scarf. I'll have to try that, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! You should give it a go!
DeleteWow, you're making a blanket in July? Good for you. I'll probably have to wait until October, myself...
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about some projects (or parts of projects) being a pain in the neck. I recently finished a mini purse that proved to be quite difficult, most likely due to the yarn I was working with. There's always next time! I'm glad crocheting your socks tops got easier after the first round. :-)
Yes, I am surprised that the heat has not stopped me! Those projects sound difficult, did you blog about it? I will check it out.
